What happened: Tennessee waived the 2023 No. 33 overall pick Sunday after he lost its backup quarterback competition. New York also evaluated Jack Plummer on Thursday.

Why it matters: Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik occupy the Jets' active-roster quarterback spots, with Bailey Zappe already on the practice squad. New York opens at Tennessee on Sept. 13, leaving any addition 10 days to learn the offense.

By the numbers: Levis went 5-16 in 21 starts for Tennessee, completing 61% of his passes for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He completed 53.8% of his passes for 200 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions during the 2026 preseason.

What to watch: Watch whether New York keeps one practice-squad quarterback or adds another before Week 1.
