What happened: J.J. McCarthy is in the starting lineup for the New York Giants for Sunday's scheduled regular-season matchup, which stands at 0-0 before kickoff.

Why it matters: The assignment marks McCarthy's move to the top of New York's quarterback depth chart following his late-September trade arrival. His execution with the first-team offense will shape how the Giants handle the position through the middle of the regular-season schedule.

What to watch: New York takes the field Sunday afternoon for McCarthy's opening start with the club.
