What happened: J.J. McCarthy is slated to serve as the New York Giants' quarterback for the foreseeable future, per James Palmer on NFL on Prime's Thursday postgame show. New York acquired McCarthy in a trade because his athletic profile mirrors Dart's on-field style.

Why it matters: Sticking with McCarthy following his trade arrival preserves offensive continuity without forcing a midseason scheme overhaul. Keeping a mobile passer under center allows the coaching staff to run the same movement-based concepts installed for Dart.

What to watch: How effectively the Giants integrate McCarthy's mobility into the game plan will be tested once their scheduled matchup gets underway.
