What happened: Real Madrid has officially appointed José Mourinho as their new manager, marking his second stint at the Santiago Bernabéu. Benfica confirmed the agreement to the CMVM after Madrid triggered a €15 million release clause following Florentino Pérez's presidential election win.

Why it matters: The move signals a major strategic shift for the club following a trophyless season under former manager Álvaro Arbeloa. Pérez, newly re-elected until 2030, has turned to the experienced Portuguese tactician to lead a significant squad overhaul and restore the club to domestic and European dominance.

What to watch: Mourinho is expected to begin his tenure immediately, focusing on high-profile summer transfer targets and preparing for the 2026-27 preseason tour.
