What happened: Jose Mourinho is set to be officially confirmed as the next manager of Real Madrid, returning to the club for a second tenure. He departs Benfica following a historic campaign where he led the squad to an unbeaten season in the Primeira Liga.

Why it matters: The appointment follows the re-election of Florentino Perez as president, who made the return of Jose Mourinho a cornerstone of his campaign. Real Madrid looks to stabilize after a trophyless season and a second-place finish in La Liga.

What to watch: Mourinho is expected to be formally presented at the Bernabéu in the coming days. He will immediately begin restructuring the squad for the 2026-27 season.
