Klopp takes charge of Germany's rebuild.

Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Jul 51 min read

What happened: Jürgen Klopp has agreed to become Germany head coach following Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation. Contract details and Klopp’s exit from Red Bull remain under discussion.

Why it matters: Klopp returns to coaching after leaving Liverpool in 2024 and moves from Red Bull’s global soccer operation. He inherits a national setup facing pressure for structural change after another early World Cup exit.

By the numbers: Germany drew 1-1 with Paraguay before losing the World Cup round-of-32 shootout 4-3. Germany have not won a World Cup knockout match since lifting the trophy in 2014.

What to watch: The German Football Association is expected to formalize the appointment after Klopp resolves his Red Bull commitments.
