What happened: The right-hander earned the win Monday after working one scoreless inning with one strikeout. Arizona activated him from the 60-day injured list on Aug. 17.

Why it matters: The Diamondbacks hold a National League wild-card position with 17 games remaining. Their run differential is even despite sitting nine games above .500.

By the numbers: Through 6 2/3 innings, Martinez is 2-0 with eight strikeouts and a 1.05 WHIP.

What to watch: Martinez's next high-leverage assignment will offer another measure of his bullpen role.
