He led the AHL with 40 goals last season.

What happened: The 25-year-old forward joins the Minnesota Wild's AHL affiliate after the Ottawa Senators let him enter free agency this summer. He spent most of 2025-26 in the minors and appeared in two NHL games.

Why it matters: The tryout gives Iowa a proven AHL scorer for a limited term. Kaliyev now has a chance to turn his minor-league production into a longer contract.

By the numbers: In 2025-26, Kaliyev had 28 assists and 68 points in 70 AHL games. His 266 shots led the league, and his 16 power-play goals ranked second.

What to watch: His first appearance in Iowa and any decision on a longer contract are the next developments.
