What happened: Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson praised rookie guard Meleek Thomas, calling his early-season contributions rare for a second-round selection. Atkinson highlighted Thomas' court vision and passing instincts as key factors in his rotation minutes. The guard has carved out immediate playing time after entering the league outside the first round.

Why it matters: Cleveland entered the season seeking backcourt depth behind its starting rotation. Thomas, who scored 16 points in his Cavaliers debut on Oct. 27, gives Atkinson a secondary creator off the bench. Establishing reliable guard production from a second-round draft pick provides roster flexibility and salary efficiency for Cleveland's cap structure.

What to watch: Cleveland continues its early-season schedule as Atkinson tests Thomas against veteran backcourts. Thomas will look to secure a permanent spot in the regular second-unit rotation.
