This has a nice ring to it…
Congrats to Kevin McGonigle on being named The Sporting News AL Rookie of the Year 🏆 https: Via @tigers on X
What happened: Kevin McGonigle received the American League Rookie of the Year award from The Sporting News on Thursday during the 2026 Major League Baseball postseason.
Why it matters: The honor caps a breakout 2026 campaign in which McGonigle moved to the front of league rookie polling in early June and returned to his home state of Pennsylvania for his first All-Star Game in July. His profile rose quickly enough by late June to make him a benchmark comparison for top amateur draft prospects.
By the numbers: McGonigle posted an .856 OPS across 62 road games during the 2026 season.
What to watch: Postseason award honors continue across Major League Baseball as the 2026 World Series opens.
