What happened: The New York Knicks open tournament defense Friday, Oct. 30, in the Emirates NBA Cup. The road matchup pits New York against the Philadelphia 76ers for a 7:30 PM ET tipoff.

Why it matters: The contest marks the start of the in-season tournament schedule for New York, following the Knicks championship banner celebration earlier this month. Group play results carry dual weight, counting toward tournament knockout qualification and the regular-season standings.
