Riley and the Showtime Era Lakers recognized with a statue last year. Very fitting for @PhilJackson11 to get a statue ne Via @ramonashelburne on X

What happened: Los Angeles announced the honor Tuesday. The ceremony will precede a Lakers home game during the 2026-27 season.

Why it matters: Jackson follows Pat Riley, whose statue was unveiled in February 2026 after his Showtime-era run. The addition places coaches from two Lakers championship eras in the plaza.

By the numbers: Jackson led the Lakers to five championships and seven NBA Finals appearances across two coaching stints totaling 11 seasons.

What to watch: Attention next turns to the statue design and participants in the April ceremony.
