What happened: The ceremony will precede Los Angeles' next-to-last game of the 2026-27 regular season. Omri Amrany will design and create the monument.

Why it matters: The honor places a coach among a plaza lineup dominated by the franchise's celebrated players and executives. Jackson's two tenures restored Los Angeles as a perennial title contender.

By the numbers: Jackson won five titles in seven Finals appearances with the Lakers, a 71.4% conversion rate. His 610 franchise wins came across 11 seasons, and his 11 NBA titles are the most by a head coach.

What to watch: Attention now turns to the monument's design and ceremony lineup.
