What happened: The five-time Pro Bowl left tackle tore his triceps during one-on-one pass-rush drills in practice. Ian Rapoport reported that the injury is likely to require surgery.

Why it matters: Washington gave Tunsil a two-year offseason extension to protect Jayden Daniels' blindside. His absence forces the Commanders to rebuild their protection plan before Week 1.

By the numbers: The extension averages $30.1M per year. Tunsil started 14 games for Washington in 2025.

What to watch: Washington's replacement plan at left tackle and any update on surgery are next.
