What happened: William Contreras and Liam Hicks, who plated a run during an October 18 postseason victory, square off as the primary catchers in the championship series. Both players carry everyday duties behind the plate entering Game 1.

Why it matters: Contreras helped end a 44-year National League pennant wait dating to 1982 while guiding a heavy October bullpen workload. Hicks overcame June back tightness and an August deadline trade to lock down a starting postseason role.

What to watch: Game 1 lineups will establish the batting-order slots for both catchers against the opening-night starters.
