What happened: Kobbie Mainoo scored the winning goal for Manchester United against Liverpool at Old Trafford, sidefooting past Freddie Woodman to restore United's lead in a 3-goal day that also saw strikes from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. Speaking after the match, Mainoo said, "I used to dream of times like this." Per match data circulating from the broadcast, Mainoo logged 1 goal, 48 passes, 21 carries, 7 recoveries and 100% dribble success.

Why it matters: The moment lands days after Mainoo signed a seven-year Manchester United extension through 2031, validating the club's decision to build the midfield around the academy product. A winner in the Liverpool fixture is the kind of signature moment that hardens a young player's status with the supporters and the dressing room, especially under Michael Carrick's stewardship. It also reinforces the trajectory Paul Pogba and Carrick himself have publicly endorsed in recent weeks.

What to watch: Watch how Carrick deploys Mainoo in United's next fixture and whether the goal pushes him into England's senior squad conversation. Tuchel's prior praise for United's form under Carrick adds weight to that selection question.
