Malachi Fields enters rookie year in line for Giants' WR2 role

Third-round pick scored in his preseason debut

Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Sep 51 min read

What happened: The 6-foot-4 Fields earned more first-team reps after catching three passes, including a touchdown from Jaxson Dart, against the Minnesota Vikings. New York traded up to No. 74 to draft him out of Notre Dame.

Why it matters: His size and contested-catch ability give the offense a different complement to Malik Nabers. His blocking also fits a run-first approach and could keep him on the field.

By the numbers: Fields caught all three targets for 34 yards and a 15-yard touchdown in the preseason opener. He averaged a 5 yards per reception in his final Notre Dame season.

What to watch: His snap share and target volume alongside Nabers will show whether the preseason ascent carries into the regular season.
