What happened: The veteran quarterback departed for the locker room following a third-down sack that ended his previous drive. Washington immediately readied its rookie passer to assume control of the offense.

Why it matters: The Commanders entered the game already missing starter Jayden Daniels, who was ruled out against the Colts with an elbow injury. Losing their veteran backup leaves the scheme in the hands of a late-round draft selection.

What to watch: Medical staff will evaluate Mariota while Kaliakmanis commands the offense against Indianapolis.
