What happened: Matthew Schaefer netted his first goal of the 2026-27 NHL regular season on Thursday night, pulling his side even at 2-2.

Why it matters: The breakthrough builds on a preseason in which Schaefer's scoring surge generated early buzz following his appearance on the NHL Player Media Tour. Getting on the board in October converts that camp momentum into regular-season production.

What to watch: Schaefer looks to build on his opening tally of the campaign as the October regular-season schedule continues.
