What happened: The Dallas Mavericks officially exercised their rookie scale team option on forward and guard Cooper Flagg. The transaction secures the next contract window for Dallas's centerpiece talent.

Why it matters: Locking in the contract option keeps Cooper Flagg under team control as Dallas builds around its young core ahead of the upcoming season. Flagg already leads the scoring load on the floor, finishing as the game-high scorer in the Mavericks' 135-111 final against the Atlanta Hawks.

What to watch: Dallas continues its preseason slate with Flagg anchored in the primary rotation heading into opening night.
