Clay Holmes shares why his wife is his Everyday Champion 🧡💙 @GuardianLife | #LGM https://t.co/pQfKRvOWTw

What happened: New York Mets pitcher Clay Holmes shared a personal tribute to his wife as part of the team's 'Everyday Champion' series, presented by Guardian Life. The feature highlights the off-field support systems that anchor professional athletes through the rigors of the MLB season.

Why it matters: The spotlight comes at a difficult time for Holmes, who is currently on the 60-day Injured List with a fractured right fibula sustained in May. Since joining the Mets in 2025 and transitioning from closer to starter, Holmes has emerged as a rotation leader for a club currently sitting at the bottom of the NL East.

By the numbers: Before his injury, Holmes posted a 4-4 record with a 2.39 ERA and 45 strikeouts across 52.0 innings in 2026. He is currently recovering from a non-displaced fracture that did not require surgery.

What to watch: Holmes is expected to rejoin the Mets' opening rotation in late August once his recovery and rehab assignment are complete.
