What happened: FC Nantes have officially re-appointed Michel Der Zakarian as head coach on a two-year contract. The former club captain replaces Vahid Halilhodzic, whose short-term tenure ended following the club's relegation from the top flight.

Why it matters: Der Zakarian returns to a club in crisis after a disastrous campaign that saw Nantes finish 17th with just 24 points. Having previously secured promotion for the club in 2008 and 2013, the 63-year-old is seen as the stabilizing force needed to navigate an immediate return to Ligue 1.

What to watch: Der Zakarian will oversee a squad overhaul this summer before the Ligue 2 campaign begins in August.
