What happened: Edwards' Standard Player Agreement runs through the 2028-29 season. San Jose drafted her June 17 and she is the first of its six picks to sign ahead of the inaugural 2026-27 campaign.

Why it matters: She is the 14th player under contract and the club's longest commitment, stabilizing an expansion blue line. San Jose opens its first season at SAP Center this fall under general manager and head coach Troy Ryan.

By the numbers: Edwards totaled 199 points (81 goals, 118 assists) in 151 games at Wisconsin, with 35 goals and 71 points in 41 games in 2024-25 as a Patty Kazmaier finalist. She added 45 points in 28 games in 2025-26, won Olympic gold with the U.S. in February and was 2024 World Championship MVP at age 20.

What to watch: Five draft picks remain unsigned as San Jose builds toward camp.
