What happened: New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin will miss the upcoming season due to a right knee injury. He sustained the injury during a preseason matchup against the Washington Capitals.

Why it matters: The absence creates an immediate crisis in net for New York just before the regular season begins. The depth chart is already compromised, as fellow goaltender Joonas Korpisalo is currently sidelined with a lower-body injury.

What to watch: Dylan Garand will step into the primary goaltender role for the Rangers.
