What happened: The New York Rangers formalized the timeline on Saturday. Igor Shesterkin exited Friday's 3-1 preseason defeat following the initial incident.

Why it matters: The setback removes the 2022 Vezina Trophy winner from the crease before the 2026-27 campaign even begins. It forces the franchise to overhaul its defensive structure just days ahead of opening night.

What to watch: The front office will evaluate its remaining depth options at the goaltender position.
