What happened: ESPN reported the designation during a live preseason game. The move adds an injury component to a dispute that had centered on a trade request.

Why it matters: That overlap deepens Detroit's trade standoff and clouds short-term planning. It also keeps the issue on the club's front burner while the preseason is still live.

What to watch: Watch for Detroit's next roster update and any formal movement on the trade front.
