What happened: Lamar Jackson hurt his right thumb on the first play of Baltimore's 36-10 Week 8 loss to Buffalo and did not return. Coach Jesse Minter said it will be "a surgery deal" and that Jackson goes on injured reserve. It is his second multi-game absence this season, after three games missed with an ankle injury.

Why it matters: Minter did not give a timeline but said the injury could "potentially" end Jackson's season. Baltimore is 4-4 on a three-game losing streak and sits 10th in the AFC seeding. Backup Tyler Huntley left the Buffalo game with a toe injury and is listed questionable, which leaves rookie Joe Fagnano as the only healthy quarterback on the 53-man roster.

By the numbers: Jackson completed 68 of 96 passes for 967 yards with 6 touchdowns and 1 interception in 2026 through 4 games. Huntley has completed 74 of 106 passes for 727 yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception in 2026 through 4 games.

What to watch: Baltimore plays Jacksonville (5-2) on Thursday night, and Huntley's toe will decide whether the Ravens need to add a quarterback. Jackson is guaranteed to miss Weeks 9-12; the earliest he could return is Week 14 against Tampa Bay.
