What happened: Boston claimed the infielder off waivers in February. A separate outfielder trade earlier Thursday made this the club's second deal of the day.

Why it matters: Seven players must return from the 60-day injured list, leaving the Red Sox with two more 40-man spots to clear by Monday. Detroit adds shortstop depth for 2027.

By the numbers: In 14 major-league games in 2026, the infielder went 10-for-39 (.256) with five RBIs. He hit .241 with eight homers and 10 steals in 94 Triple-A games.

What to watch: Detroit must clear a 40-man roster spot before the trade becomes official.
