What happened: Assistant coach Scottie Montgomery addressed the skill set that sets Penei Sewell, who recently ran a pass route out of a specialty package, apart on the offensive line. On that Oct. 26 design, Sewell went in motion and ran a shallow cross that drew defensive coverage away on a touchdown play.

Why it matters: Deploying an offensive tackle as an eligible receiver in motion forces opposing defenses to defend extra pass-game wrinkles alongside standard blocking assignments. Selected seventh overall out of Oregon in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Sewell anchors the protection unit across multiple alignments during the 2026 regular season.

By the numbers: Sewell led all offensive linemen with a 90.9 Pro Football Focus grade as of Oct. 21, 2026, while his offensive line held two of the top four spots at the position.

What to watch: Opposing defensive fronts must account for both Sewell's blindside pass protection and specialty motion packages as the 2026 regular season continues.
