What happened: Sean Strickland is the new UFC middleweight champion after beating Khamzat Chimaev to regain the belt at UFC 328. Multiple reports and UFC event coverage indicate Strickland won a split decision in Newark, New Jersey, with judges scoring it 48-47, 47-48 and 48-47. The result handed Chimaev the first loss of his professional MMA career.

Why it matters: This is a major title shake-up because Chimaev entered fight week as a heavy and left without the belt. The upset immediately changes the middleweight matchmaking picture and could trigger rematch talk, especially with post-fight reports suggesting Chimaev may also consider moving up in weight.

What to watch: Watch for UFC confirmation on Strickland's first title defense and whether Chimaev pushes for a rematch. Chimaev's next division is also worth tracking after post-fight reports tied his loss to a difficult weight cut.
