What happened: Sean Strickland defeated Khamzat Chimaev by split decision in the UFC 328 main event to become the new UFC middleweight champion. Reports from UFC and MMA coverage listed 48-47, 47-48 and 48-47 scorecards after a five-round fight in Newark, New Jersey. The win made Strickland a two-time champion and handed Chimaev the first loss of his pro career.

Why it matters: A title change at middleweight is immediate top-tier UFC news, especially with Strickland reclaiming the belt as an underdog. It also extends the run noted in prior Wire coverage of Strickland's upset title win, reinforcing his reputation for delivering in championship fights when counted out.

What to watch: Watch for the UFC to clarify the next middleweight title picture, including whether Chimaev gets an immediate rematch. Any postfight medical suspensions or matchmaking comments from Dana White will shape the division quickly.
