What happened: The Philadelphia 76ers have thin depth at backup center while Joel Embiid remains day-to-day after sitting out Sunday for right plantar fasciitis management. Hukporti sustained a season-ending ruptured right Achilles tendon and Barlow has a lumbar spine bone stress response, leaving second-round picks Adem Bona and Johni Broome as the remaining internal frontcourt options.

Why it matters: Philadelphia has limited trade flexibility until summer free-agent signees become eligible to move on Dec. 15, when prorated veteran contracts also become practical. Extending Embiid's regular-season workload carries risk after knee trouble followed his 70-point game against Victor Wembanyama's San Antonio Spurs and 50-point playoff outing against the New York Knicks in 2024 prior to his 2026 postseason run against the Boston Celtics.

By the numbers: Philadelphia holds a 3-1 record, posting a 112.3 offensive rating with Embiid on the court compared to 92.8 points per 100 possessions with him off the floor prior to Sunday's loss. Atlantic Division rivals Boston and New York sit at 2-1 and 0-3, respectively.

What to watch: The Sixers face a 15-to-20-game stretch before the mid-December trade window opens and Barlow returns to test small-ball center lineups.
