What happened: Minnesota Twins optioned RHP Zebby Matthews to Triple-A St. Paul. Transaction creates 40-man roster space for RHP Mick Abel. Official Twins announcement confirms the move amid final spring training cuts.

Why it matters: Abel has dazzled in spring with 96-97 mph velocity, 14% swinging-strike rate, and MLB-leading 23 strikeouts. Favoring Abel's high ceiling over Matthews impacts rotation depth for season opener.

By the numbers: Abel ST stats: Leads MLB Ks (23), 4.2 IP/6K/2ER recent outing. Matthews 2025 AAA: 1.93 ERA, 27.5% K-rate.

What to watch: Watch Twins' final roster announcements and Joe Ryan's Opening Day start. Track Abel's MLB debut.
