What happened: The UC Capitals beat Bendigo Spirit in Canberra to take their first win of WNBL27. Megan McConnell said afterward the group is just getting started.

Why it matters: An opening win gives Canberra early momentum in the WNBL27 campaign that tipped off Oct. 15. Amy Atwell took Player of the Game honors in the opener, underscoring a balanced start alongside McConnell.

By the numbers: McConnell posted 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal against Bendigo on Oct. 17. WNBL27 Opening Week featured a six-game slate.

What to watch: Canberra aims to stack a second win and hold its early defensive level. Continued production from McConnell and Atwell is the early barometer.
