What happened: The United States men's national team have officially qualified for the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The result carries the co-hosts out of the group stage and into the knockout bracket.

Why it matters: Reaching the Round of 16 keeps the home nation's tournament alive and sustains momentum for a side under real pressure to deliver on home soil. Advancing as Group D winners hands the U.S. a foothold in the knockout draw rather than a tougher runner-up path.

What to watch: Attention now turns to the Round of 16 opponent and draw, with the U.S. set to be without Folarin Balogun, who was sent off and will miss the knockout tie.
