What happened: Valtteri Bottas crashed into the safety barriers during the Mexico City Grand Prix at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. On-track medical personnel checked on Bottas in the cockpit before the driver removed his headrest and exited the car under his own power. Race officials red-flagged the grand prix to allow marshals to repair the damaged Tecpro barrier.

Why it matters: The stoppage alters pit stop windows and track position battles for frontrunners Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc early in Mexico. For Bottas, the heavy impact ends his race day prematurely and forces extensive chassis evaluations ahead of the remaining rounds on the 2026 calendar.

What to watch: Medical officials will conduct standard evaluations in the medical center before releasing Bottas. Race control will issue a restart time once barrier reconstruction is completed.
