What happened: The Washington Wizards secured the No. 1 overall selection in the 2026 NBA Draft after winning Sunday's lottery. Meanwhile, the NFL officially announced that the Washington Commanders will host the 2027 NFL Draft on the National Mall, marking the city's first time hosting the event since 1941.

Why it matters: The top pick gives the Wizards a chance to add a generational prospect to a roster already bolstered by Trae Young and Anthony Davis. This Washington sports surge is expected to draw over 1 million fans to the District for the 2027 NFL event, providing a massive economic windfall.

What to watch: NBA Draft coverage begins June 23 at Barclays Center. Commanders ownership will continue stadium site negotiations alongside draft preparations.
