What happened: Chicago will use its incoming arms in relief stints of no more than two innings. Erick Fedde is expected to return to the rotation after Luis Castillo displaced him for one turn.

Why it matters: Schultz is unavailable for four days after throwing 23 pitches Friday, while Sandlin threw 96 in emergency relief. The reshuffle gives a taxed bullpen two fresh options without opening a rotation spot.

What to watch: Chicago must make a corresponding 40-man roster move before completing the promotions. The relief roles and first availability dates are next to watch.
