What happened: Zach Guthrie is moving to the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA bench after two seasons as head coach of the franchise's G League affiliate, Shams Charania first reported. Wire Report previously covered the same promotion to an assistant coach, player development role, and Charania's report confirms the move.

Why it matters: The promotion keeps Guthrie inside the Lakers' coaching pipeline as the franchise builds out its staff ahead of the 2026-27 season. It also leaves the G League affiliate's head coaching post open heading into that team's own upcoming season.

What to watch: Watch for the Lakers to name Guthrie's successor as the G League affiliate's head coach.
