Returning to the ice as a full participant in Friday’s practice, Olen Zellweger is “looking forward” to getting his seas Via @BuffaloSabres on X

What happened: The defenseman took part fully in Friday's session and said he is looking forward to getting his season started. The return comes after he exited a Sept. 23 preseason victory with an injury and missed time late in camp.

Why it matters: That is a meaningful step for Olen Zellweger ahead of the 2026-27 opener after an interruption during preseason. A full practice gives the staff a chance to ramp his workload back toward regular use instead of managing another limited session.

By the numbers: Zellweger exited a preseason win on Sept. 23, was still out Friday as of Oct. 1, and returned as a full participant at Friday's practice on Oct. 2.

What to watch: Watch whether Zellweger is in uniform for Saturday's opener and whether he holds full reps in the next on-ice session.
