What happened: Olen Zellweger scored 50 seconds into the second period to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead over San Jose. The first period ended scoreless.

Why it matters: The goal ended a rowdy opening period in which neither side scored. It is Zellweger's third of the season.

What to watch: San Jose needs an answer to a 1-0 deficit, and Buffalo has the rest of the game to protect it.
