What happened: The San Francisco 49ers plan to make their selection with the first pick of the NFL Draft's second round, No. 33 overall. After fielding trade talks throughout the day, no offer proved enticing enough. This follows their earlier trade sending the No. 30 pick to the Jets.

Why it matters: The decision underscores the 49ers' confidence in their draft board amid roster needs for the 2026 season. Sticking at 33 allows them to target a first-round talent who slipped without overreaching. It shapes their depth chart in a competitive NFC West.

What to watch: Watch the 49ers' selection at No. 33, then Arizona Cardinals at No. 34.
