Fond memories for Fernando 🥹 The two-time world champ picks his favourite race in Barcelona 🤩 #F1 #BarcelonaGP https:/

What happened: Fernando Alonso named his 2006 win with Renault as his favorite memory at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The veteran driver shared his reflections as Formula 1 returns to the track for what is likely its final visit before the Spanish Grand Prix moves to Madrid in 2027.

Why it matters: The two-time world champion has enjoyed significant success at his home circuit throughout his 23-year career. His retrospective comments come during a difficult 2026 season where he has scored only one point, contrasting with the dominant form of championship leader Kimi Antonelli.

By the numbers: Alonso has secured two career wins in Barcelona (2006, 2013) across 23 appearances. Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli currently leads the 2026 standings with 156 points, holding a 66-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton.

What to watch: Practice sessions for the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix begin Friday.
