What happened: St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington is the lone netminder on Chris Johnston's expanded 20-player trade board for The Athletic, debuting at No. 8. With Connor Hellebuyck traded to the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 23, Binnington stands as the top veteran goaltender available on the market.

Why it matters: Playing time has diminished for Binnington after Joel Hofer seized the primary starting job in St. Louis. Moving Binnington's expiring $6 million contract, which carries a 10-team no-trade list, would allow the Blues to add assets while sitting four points behind the third Central Division playoff spot and two points out of the second wild-card berth.

By the numbers: Hofer has won four of eight starts with a .917 save percentage this season, while Binnington has one win in four appearances with an .845 save percentage and a 4.11 goals-against average. St. Louis holds an 11-14 record, scoring 2.8 goals per game and allowing 2.6.

What to watch: Teams seeking experienced goaltending will monitor whether St. Louis is willing to retain salary on Binnington's $6 million cap hit as Hofer continues to carry the starter's workload.
