What happened: The Cardinals reinstated right-hander Ryne Stanek from the paternity list and, in a corresponding move, optioned right-hander Gordon Graceffo to Triple-A Memphis. The two-part transaction keeps the bullpen at full strength heading into the holiday weekend.

Why it matters: Stanek rejoins the relief corps after a short absence, having been placed on the paternity list days earlier. Graceffo, one of the club's younger arms, returns to Memphis where he can continue stretching out and stay available as depth.

What to watch: Watch whether Graceffo is recalled again as St. Louis manages bullpen workload through the weekend series against the Cubs.
