What happened: The Los Angeles Chargers have officially signed first-round edge rusher Akheem Mesidor to his rookie contract. The former Miami standout was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and joins a defensive unit looking to bolster its pressure off the edge.

Why it matters: Securing Mesidor ensures the Chargers' top draft asset is in camp and ready to integrate into a rotation alongside veterans Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu. The fully guaranteed deal includes a fifth-year option, anchoring a key piece of the defense's future as they navigate the 2026 offseason.

What to watch: Mesidor will look to carve out a significant role during upcoming training camp sessions as the Chargers finalize their 53-man roster for the 2026 campaign.
