What happened: Indianapolis Colts safety Cam Bynum has emerged as a potential trade target for the Buffalo Bills alongside previously profiled candidates Brian Thomas Jr., Amani Hooker, and Antoine Winfield Jr. Bynum is in the second year of a four-year, $60 million contract with $26 million guaranteed signed with Indianapolis after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Drafted in the fourth round in 2021 before converting from cornerback to safety, he has logged more than 5,000 career snaps and missed only three games.

Why it matters: Buffalo sits at 5-1 as the AFC's No. 2 seed on a two-game winning streak and faces a need for an every-down free safety with C.J. Gardner-Johnson on the reserve/suspended list. Indianapolis has fallen to 2-5 and 12th in the conference on a three-game skid after a 16-10 loss to the 6-0 Vikings on Oct. 25, putting the roster in sell-off mode. Acquiring Bynum after Week 9 would leave the Bills responsible for $5 million of his $10 million 2026 base salary, up to $270,000 in per-game roster bonuses, and non-guaranteed base salaries of $13.4 million in 2027 and $14.4 million in 2028.

By the numbers: Across 430 total snaps to date, Bynum has aligned at free safety on 60.6% of plays, in the box on 24.8%, at slot corner on 9.3%, at wide corner on 4.4%, and on the defensive line for three snaps. Over 24 games with the Colts, he has totaled five interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and 4.45 tackles per game while maintaining an 8.8% career missed-tackle rate.

What to watch: The NFL trade deadline arrives Nov. 10 after Week 9, giving Buffalo and Indianapolis 13 days to negotiate draft-pick compensation projected between a 2027 third- and fourth-round selection. Any acquisition would likely be accompanied by a contract restructure converting Bynum's non-guaranteed 2027 and 2028 base salaries into guaranteed money.
