What happened: The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 to clinch the 2026 NBA Finals and win the series 4-1. Following the final buzzer, Victor Wembanyama drew criticism from reporter Ariel Helwani for exiting the floor without participating in the traditional post-series handshake with the victorious Knicks.

Why it matters: The loss ends a historic run for the Spurs rookie Dylan Harper and the young San Antonio core, while New York secures its first championship since 1973. Jalen Brunson’s 45-point performance spearheaded a 16-point comeback to overcome Harper's 25-point night.

What to watch: The Spurs head into the offseason looking to build on their Finals experience, while the Knicks prepare for a championship parade in Manhattan.
