What happened: In 2000, Larry Johnson urged everyone to move past the Patrick Ewing trade, dismissing lingering focus on the deal as 'dead and gone.

Why it matters: The 2000 trade closed Ewing's playing tenure in New York without a ring. Ewing joined the Knicks' title parade in June to celebrate the championship that eluded him as a player before agreeing in July to become a Wizards assistant coach.

What to watch: Ewing begins the 2026-27 NBA regular season on Washington's bench following his offseason hiring.
