What happened: Detroit elevated veteran wide receiver and return specialist DeAndre Carter from the practice squad on Thursday while filling an open practice-squad spot with seventh-year safety Myles Bryant. Carter initially signed with the Lions' practice squad on Oct. 15.

Why it matters: Signing Carter to the 53-man roster makes him eligible for game-day action in the return game and wide receiver rotation without using standard practice-squad elevations. Adding Bryant gives the secondary an experienced defensive back in his seventh NFL season who became available after his release on Oct. 13.

What to watch: Carter is immediately eligible to dress for Detroit's next regular-season game, while Bryant begins working on the practice squad as an option for future game-day elevations.
